Philips 3D Display used for Deutsche Telekom to demonstrate interactive 3D-TV at CeBIT
Feasibility demonstration illustrates capabilities of broadband home-connection use for next generation TV
Hanover, Germany - Demonstrating the future today, Deutsche Telekom AG demonstrates interactive television in the third dimension on Philips 3D WOWvx display. The Telekom showcase will wow visitors with movies, home shopping, interactive applications and online game scenarios in stunning 3D depth.
At the Telekom booth, visitors can experience 3D viewing on Philips 42 inch 3D displays showing high-definition stereo film especially created by Germany based KUK-Filmproduktion. The stereo film was recorded last month at the Eisenbach Studios in Munich, Germany using a setup with two high-definition cameras and converted into 3D using Philips 3D Solutions Stereo-to-3D conversion software. The high-definition 3D video stream is transmitted over Telekoms high-speed network (ADSL+).
Philips 3D WOWvx displays, whereby viewers can experience 3D without the use of special glasses, are in use today for professional applications such as in store advertising. By adding depth to the picture, 3D displays give a more immersive and entertaining viewing experience as it gives the perception that the image seems to actually come out of the screen. Philips is exploring opportunities to bring 3D-TV also into the broader consumer domain over the years to come.
To support its customers in the creation of the 3D content, Philips has developed a carefully targeted suite of 3D content-enabling software, to unlock the customer's new and existing material for visualization in 3D using the '2D-plus-depth' format. This includes plug-ins for animation software, OpenGL Control for real-time applications, and semi-automated video conversion from 2D to 3D as well as real-time stereo to 3D conversion tools. This can be used for online stereo to 3D conversion in future 3D broadcast.
The 3D demonstrator marks a new era in Telekom's broadband interactive IPTV applications T-Home.
CeBIT2007 The CeBIT is held March 15-21, 2007 (Monday - Thursday) at the Hanover Messe in Hanover, Germany. The Deutsche Telekom AG booth can be found in Hall 26 Stand A01.
